| I sent a email to the fisheries supervisor, wondering what was going on at Geode. Hello Mr. Mannhardt, Lake Geode is undergoing a restoration program at this time. One of the more important aspects of the plan is reducing the amount of sediment and nutrient inputs entering the lake. The heavy equipment that you saw will be constructing sediment-nutrient collection ponds (6 at this time and a few more down the road) and some additional sediment reducing measures as well. The overall objective is to improve water quality at Lake Geode. At this time, the primary funding source for this aspect of the project are Lake Restoration dollars. | That is awesome! Great to hear at least parts of it are moving forward.
I would guess dredging the lake will not be something that they would do until all of these ponds are established and such so that the lake will be ready when they do finally dredge or whatever they do to it.
Will be interesting to see in the years to come how the lake changes. The only thing is the lake is loaded with those nutriants and pesticides and such that we all know take forever to go away, so it could be a long time yet before things really make a turn but either way its good to see.
Great work finding out the info Bob! | |
