Been snowing like mad here for about an hour. It is staying on the grassy areas.

This will only help the lakes to freeze up this week!

Finished up the christmas shopping today and now its all about waiting on the ice and the snow to really make it feel like its winter time.

We are doing alright hunting in the rain, but snow would be better. Don't think it will get all the way down to us though.

We are in for a little cold weather here, so things should start freezing up by morning. Looks like it's going to hang around for a bit too. No more 70° in the forecast.

Well I went ahead and ordered bait this morning. I still am not overly excited about the extended forecast but I guess wth.

I still had live spikes in my fridge from last year as of this weekend so I'm sure I'll be fine. This is the latest I have ordered bait since I started ice fishing.

If the darn wind wouldn't have been blowing last night, we would be iced up here. Was plenty cold, but the wind howled all night. it is suppose to lay down tonight, so we should get capped over. The next few days look really good.

i need to order bait...but I have used a lot of plastics the last couple of winters...so not as much bait this year for me.

Marsh was locking up the longer we sat today. Soon as the wind lays down it will cap.

Well, I like the cold and its been nice having it around the last couple nights but I seriously doubt anything is capped around here. I haven't even looked. Wind blew again last night only out of the south this time.

Extended forecast still has highs in the 40's most days right up till the 1st of January so I am not getting overly excited quite yet.

Would be nice if a decent cold front would swing through and bring some single digit lows and teen highs but I don't see that yet. Guess I will just hold out for the weather man being wrong with his extended forecast as he most generally is.

I hear things are locking up quite nicely up north so might be time for a trip up north in the next couple weeks if things don't come around. Been saving 4 vacation days all year for early ice and if it don't hurry up I am about to loose them.

The ponds around Marshalltown capped at about 5pm last night. Not sure how thick, but will check it later tonight to see what 24hrs did. I would expect 1-2 inches...hopefully it will stay past Thursday and then make more this weekend...hopefully.

Most smaller ponds capped from Fairfield to centerville most bigger ponds not. Some ice on edge of Chariton river this morning.

Yeah I was a little surprised to see most smaller ponds capped around here too. I was just out and about. Even all the coves at P are capped but the main lake is still open.

I don't look for that to hold with the temps were are facing for the rest of the week but either way there is some ice around.

Well my bait arrived today from Vados. Looks good.

Now I just need somewhere to get it wet.

I was going to order today with Shannon and Mark, but think I will wait till Monday. That will make it 2 weeks later than last year. Doesn't look like we will be on any ice anytime soon around here.

Or duck lake is capped. Cold nights may keep things round here hard.

I am game for a day or two trip north if you want company or anyone else is interested. I need to get on the ice more this year (twice last year, both in the one week we had ice) and am willing to travel. Probably be able to pull off a couple of short trips.

The inlaws are in Waterloo and I will be there for several days over Christmas too. Just wish they had some better bodies of water for fishing in that area.

I will keep that in mind Shannon. Starting to hear some good reports of ice to the north.

Ice is still holding on the ponds and P as of tonight. The long cool nights are certainly helping. Its clear everything is ready to freeze up. Just need a couple cold days and we'll be fishing. We really aren't behind schedule much around here. About normal.

Close, not quite, but close. I fished quite a bit in the spring, just didn't happen again after July.

Buy a MN license and lets go!! I hope to fish a little at Christmas but not sure I will be able to. After that I may be heading up to dads a bit more often if I have to.

Calling for 4 inches if snow here wednesday, possibly 8 in areas, and 2 at the least. Sounds just like a normal forecast. Yes, 100%, but maybe and if...

I'm ready for it. Need some cold for the geese to go feed on a pattern.
